Ann Rocha is the founder and CEO of Simply Love in Calgary, which is a children’s clothing brand featuring high-quality pieces made from sustainable materials. Ann experienced infertility for several years, and during that time she began Simply Love as a distraction from her problems. It has turned into a creative outlet as she is now a mother of a beautiful little girl!
Ann sews the leggings herself, and they come in all types of patterns! She also invented her own romper, which is a top that can be worn as a shirt, with shorts over the sewn in bottom, or as an outfit by itself with its little shorts, and it looks like two pieces. When I first saw it, I thought it was genius! I always thought my babies looked funny with their pants on over their onesies, and this solves that problem! It’s a onesie that doesn’t look like a onesie – it just looks like a shirt!
I loved photographing this awesome Alberta-made company. Ann drove down to Lethbridge from Calgary and brought bags of clothes! We had arranged the models ahead of time, and she had a bag for each model with their name on it, with their clothing ready for them. We also had some accessories from the Baby Niche to keep the kids busy, and her toys are so neutral that they still look good in photos! Ann collaborated on one piece with another Southern Alberta children’s clothing brand, Prairie Mountain Co – a yellow sweatshirt with a rainbow that matches the rainbow prints on her leggings! She is a huge proponent of community over competition.
This shoot involved 18 child models ranging in age from a few weeks to 5 years, and their moms, and a grandma! It was so much fun to coordinate and plan, and to shoot to show off all of the details Ann works so hard on!
